Green County Sheriff Badge

All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The following incident occurred on Tuesday, June 9, 2020:

Motor Vehicle Theft:
At approximately 4:38 p.m., Deputies responded to a residence in the N2900 block of Monroe Sylvester Rd in the Town of Sylvester for a report of a motor vehicle theft.  It was reported that the stolen vehicle, along with an attached trailer, were last seen eastbound on STH 59 from Monroe Sylvester Rd.  Deputies located the stolen vehicle and trailer operating in the W2100 block of Purintun Rd in the Town of Albany.  Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, however the operator of the stolen vehicle failed to stop.  Deputies then initiated a pursuit of the stolen vehicle, which lasted approximately 1.3 miles.  The operator of the stolen vehicle then stopped the vehicle in the rural Albany area and fled on foot.  Deputies later located the suspect, who was identified as Jason L. Melvin, 42, Brooklyn, WI.

Investigation resulted in Melvin being arrested for Felony charges of Knowingly Flee an Officer, Operate a Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent, and Bail Jumping.  Melvin was also cited for Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed and Unsafe Lane Deviation.  Melvin also had a Probation Hold placed on him by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.  Melvin was incarcerated in the Green County Jail pending an initial court appearance.  The stolen vehicle and trailer were both recovered and returned to the owner.

The Green County K9 unit assisted with the investigation.  Also, the Monroe Police Department and the Monticello Police Department assisted Deputies with the investigation.
