Green County Sheriff – April 20, 2020

The following incidents occurred on Monday, April 20, 2020:

Motor Vehicle Crash:
At approximately 9:00 a.m., Deputies responded to the intersection of STH 11 and CTH S in the Town of Jefferson for a report of a two vehicle crash.  Investigation revealed that Kevin J. Ryan, 63, Juda, WI, was traveling westbound on STH 11 near the intersection with CTH S, when he began to pull over due to a semi unit with a wide load that was traveling through the intersection.  At this time, a westbound vehicle traveling behind Ryan, did not observe Ryan pulling his vehicle over and collided with Ryan’s vehicle.  The second vehicle was found to be driven by Virgil E. Helmeid, 83, Brodhead, WI.  Both vehicles then came to a rest.

Ryan reported that he was not injured and that he was wearing his seatbelt.  The vehicle sustained minor damage and the airbags did not deploy.  The vehicle was driven from the scene.  

Helmeid reported that he was not injured and that he was wearing his seatbelt.  An adult passenger in the vehicle reported that they were not injured and that they were wearing their seatbelt.  The vehicle sustained moderate damage and the airbags did not deploy.  The vehicle was driven from the scene. 

Motor Vehicle Crash:
At approximately 10:43 a.m., Deputies responded to the N4400 block of STH 69 in the Town of Monroe for a report of a vehicle versus farm tractor crash.  Investigation revealed that Cory D. Bauman, 20, Monroe, WI, was operating a farm tractor hauling equipment southbound on STH 69, when he proceeded to make a left turn into a field access.  At this time, a southbound vehicle traveling behind Bauman, collided with the farm equipment.  The vehicle was found to be driven by Carolyn K. Johnson, 72, Monticello, WI. 

Johnson reported that she was not injured and that she was wearing her seatbelt.  The vehicle sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene.  Bauman reported that he was not injured.  The equipment sustained minor damage.  Bauman drove the farm tractor and equipment from the scene.
